How to get Euro symbol on german keymap

hai!

I am using a customized linux distribution with very minimum fonts.

I changed my keymap to german. Everything working fine as per german keymap, like getting y when typed z.
As per german keymap when I press AltGr+e, my console should display Euro symbol but instead of that it is displaying a small square box.
I am using Xvesa and loadkmap command for loading keymaps.

What could be the problem. Is this related to fonts?

To know which locales are available in your system:
Code:
bash-3.1$ locale -a|grep de
de_AT
de_AT@euro
de_AT.utf8
de_BE
de_BE@euro
de_BE.utf8
de_CH
de_CH.utf8
de_DE
de_DE@euro
de_DE.utf8
de_LU
de_LU@euro
de_LU.utf8
gez_ER@abegede
gez_ET@abegede
bash-3.1$
Then choose either a ".utf8" or a "@euro" locale depending upon you want an utf8 terminal or not.

For instance I add
Quote:
export LC_ALL=fr_FR.utf8
in ~/.bashrc.

And, as in my Slackware distribution the bash locale settings are in scripts sourced from /etc/profile.d/ directory into /etc/profile, I added in /etc/profile.d/lang.sh and /etc/profile.d/lang.csh following command:
Code:
export LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8

Germany is one of the 16 members of the Eurozone.

You'd think the € would be on their keyboards by default

I guess it is, if you speak about most physical keyboards sold in German speaking countries -- but may be in Switzerland ?
