How to get Digital out to work?

Hello,

I want to have my Internal sound card output via the Digital out to my stero receiver? Can anyone give me some insight on how to do this?

I have an Asus A7V600-X and its an VIA82XX chipset... I've tried reading the Alsa wiki but its extremely confusing to me... I'm not clear what to put in my .asoundrc file...
