how to get apps to start in same screen location

Is there a way to get apps (especially Firefox and GAIM) to open in the same desktop location every time (like in ms-windoze) instead of what seems like random? Drives me nuts having to move the damn thing EVERY time I start it. Same goes for all apps. There must be a setting somewhere in X, right?

I don't have that problem in KDE... maybe there's an option somewhere in your windows manager / desktop environment
