how to fix waiting on mandatory device at boot error

hi experts

I got a suse 10 vm that is booting in vmware player, but from the safe mode i can see that it hangs on "waiting for mandatory devices ... eth--...mac address..." and a countdown from 200000, meaning, i think, it will wait for the next 55 hours for the mandatory device.

I have found a few pages with the solution, but they ALL require you log in first. I can't do that. This is happening AT boot!

any ideas folks?

Did you find a solution to this?

sorry for the delay, but yes, i did. you take vmware converter which is free, convert the vm to a cloud infrastructure vm, stick it in that cloud boot it up, edit the offending boot device, and then convert it back from the cloud infrastructure vm to its own standalone vm.

yeah, not the best solution, if you don't have a vCloud or vCenter setup accessible you will have to try this: take the same vmware converter, and convert it to any other vm format (its a drop down menu, you pick one of the possible options) and then convert it back again without sticking it in the cloud. This might work, i haven't tried it yet.
