How to find out your video card for mandrake?

Alright well my friend gave me his old laptop before he moved away first thing i did was install fedora core on it and got used to install files and working with the kernel / terminal.

Then i went to ubuntu , slackware and finally i decided to go to Mandrake just to give it a shot and decide which distro is right for me. Well mandrake asked me to specify a graphic card yet i dont know the specs of the computer...

I skiped the step and x file or somthing didnt work so when it booted up everything seemed fine it went to the consol i logged it and typd in startx

and it said error bash and stuff like that now my other friend on irc told me it isnt working becasue i didnt specify a video card.

- How can i find out the specs of this computer or find out the video card.

? is it possable to install fedora quickly and check.. if so what is the command / what do i do?

Well, if you skipped that process then I would imagine that X would not start...

Linux can detect your card through the install process but it's not perfect... I think MDK uses "modprobe" during the install but it's been awhile... but at best it will install a generic driver...

Find out as much as you can searching for your system and what others may have used in a similar install...

Then you can either edit your /etc/xorg.conf file or run in root:

and enter the appropriate video card drive and monitor information...
