How to file a bug report.

Hi, can somebody please tell me or point me to How to file a bug report, I mean how to create a report in the first instance, filing depends upon application's site sstructure. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Ummm ... as you said: it depends on the applications homepage.

How can you expect a generic answer?

Wherever you file the bug report, there are certain important "sections" that you shouldn't forget.
- Platform on which it was tested. Brief idea of the setup being used.
- Summary : A brief description of what the bug is all about
- Method: Steps used to reproduce the issue. For eg:
1. Launch Firefox browser
2. Open site "bla bla" without http://
- Result: What happened when you perform the steps above
- Attach any log files, crash dumps which developer will find useful.

so isnt there any kind of bug report we need to submit..by using any tracing app like strace..I was suggested by this in my distros forum, but I couldnt determine if it needs to be used by one particular app or all apps. Like KDE used to freeze when no internet connection was found at startup, so how to generate all those log and dump files etc..?

at the end of many man pages there is a line 'send all bug reports to blah@blah.com'. Just create an email saying 'Hello, i found a bug with blah app using blah OS i did blah to give me blah which can't be right etc etc'. There is a person at the end of that email
