How to extract (unpack) file in "A" driver

I try to extract file in "A" driver :
eg:

[root@localhost floppy] # ls

alsa-driver-0.5.12a.tar.bz2

[root@localhost floppy] # tar zxvf alsa-driver-0.5.12a.tar.bz2

error message:
gzip:Stdin:not in gzip format
tar:Child returned status /
tar:Error exit delayed from previous errors

Any one can help me how to extract this file and install it .Thanks.

It's a bz2 file and not a gzip file. If your tar program was compiled with support for bz2 files then you can run.

tar xvjf filename.tar.bz2

otherwise you could do:

bzcat filename.tar.bz2 | tar xv
