how to erase windows xp and install in my hp


how can i erase my windows xp os and install linux as my sole os?

Download iso burn to disk, when you get to partitioning erase the partitions & create new partitions, if there's the option to "use entire disk" that will also erase.

Most distributions will give you that as an option on install.
Just download an iso, burn it to CD/DVD as an image, then boot it. Follow the doco for your chosen distro.

which distro will you be installing? Some of the more user friendly ones like ubuntu guide you through pretty much every step of the way. Just go to the web site and they tell you what to do, step by step.

hay Mods , is there a range of IP's that these one liners that contain no real and useful information are coming from ?

If so then a ip block might be in order

Generally it's the answer that contains the useful information, not the question. Considering this is a newbie forum. I'd say it's appropriate.
