Encryption is not a form or security, even if you did encrypt the directory, that doesn't stop people from copying the encrypted directory to a local location then trying to crack the encryption offline.
Why don't you just change the permissions on the directory so that no one in xxx group has permission?
If its a windows environment then you must have a DC? (domain controller) so you can give certain users permission to mount the share and access certain folders in the share by giving those folder special AD permissions.
