how to enable sound in kde

Well I have two desktop environments
GNOME and KDE.

However the command
Code:

/usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --id="desktop-logout" --description="KDE Login"
produces proper ouput in GNOME but not in kde.

whenever I try to run it in kde it produces the following output
Code:

$ /usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --id="desktop-logout" --description="KDE Login"
Failed to play sound: Sound disabled

Can anybody please give me a solution to this problem so that I can use it in kde????

There should be a drop-down menu to select the theme in use (by default
is disabled -no sounds-, so you have to click on the combo box and choose
"default" theme to enable system sounds).

I had sound problems in my KDE Kubuntu install until I raised the volume via alsamixer and other alsa tools. Maybe check those out to see if they're causing a conflict.
