how to enable additional USB keyboard on laptop

i want to use my USB keyboard in linux, on my laptop.

the built-in laptop keyboard works fine in linux.
and when connected, the usb kb is detected in linux (the kb spec is shown in the hardware control centre).
...but i dont know how to enable it.

the usb kb works in grub, and works in windows as soon as plugged in.

ive tried searching forums and googling for answers, but i havent found any yet! ...i'm thinking this is a fairly simple problem. maybe my search terms were too broad?

can anyone help please?

im using suse 10.0 and ubuntu 5.10 and would like to enable the usb keyboard in both distros.

thanks! any help greatly appreciated!

I've just tried on both my main pc and on my laptop using ubuntu 5.10 and mepis 3.4 respectively and the keyboard (apple USB) just worked with no messing about and the other keyboards still worked too, so I'm really no help to you but I hate to see a query unanswered ;-)
