How TO Document my work
Is there any good tutorial explaining how to document your work (network). After a while I have a hard time even resolving what I did, not to mantion the others.
Thanks,

What do you mean "document" your network? IP range, Subnet, DNS, whether it's DHCP or static, that kind of thing?

Let's say you did simple change to dhcpd.conf but nobody knows except you. Or ... tomorrow you're gone and somebody else has to replace you. There should be something like documents explaining network layout...ldap replication....security policy....whatever. Otherwise guy will spend next year trying to figure your what you did and why.
I guess this is a question for guys working in large networks.

Try to create a simple paper log form.
You will need places for the following data:
Date
Person performing the work
Type of work done
Machine worked on (this field should list the Machine name, Serial number, IP address, Its function on the Network i.e. Client, Server, router, firewall, etc.
Type of network connection: Cat5e, fibre channel,
Network medium: Wired, Wireless, etc.
Reason for worked performed: Rountine maintenance, Hardware upgrade, etc.
Create a space for addtional Notes regarding the work to be performed.
I hope this will do.
