How to do this
hi,
I have just installed syslog-ng along with eventlog in two systems in same network. now i want to make one of the systems in those two as client and the other as server. I have tried it by making different changes in the configuration files but did not succeed can any one suggest me the changes that i should make in my configuration files of the client and the server systems. Any help appreciated, Prakash. |
What OS is the syslog server? What OS is the syslog client?
Here's a link to some basic info that covers both Debian/Ubuntu and Fedora: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Setti...er-44063.shtml This link is a more detailed how-to regarding syslog set up using Debian. However, it mentions installing a syslog agent on a Windows server: http://www.aboutdebian.com/syslog.htm Hope this helps. |
Hi,
Thanks for your reply, But i did not find any statements regarding changes in configuration files of syslog-ng there. It is all mentioned about syslog.conf and sysklogd. I want about syslog-ng I have tried by changing the following in my syslog-ng clients configuration file but these changes did not work. destination d_mesg { udp("server's ip address" port (514)); }; destination d_auth { udp("server's ip address" port (514)); }; Suggest me any more changes, Thanks, Prakash. |
Sorry for misunderstanding. Perhaps this link will be more helpful, http://sial.org/howto/logging/syslog-ng/
What OS is the syslog-ng server? What OS and/or app is the syslog client? |
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I am using CentOS 5.2 on both the systems. thanks, Prakash. |
CentOS is a rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise and Fedora is an openly-developed project designed by Red Hat. How important is it for you to us syslog-ng? If you go with syslog, then you could use the settings mentioned in http://news.softpedia.com/news/Setti...er-44063.shtml
