Hello & welcome! Great to see your interest! Can you tell us any specific interests?
Try a web-search of your title: How to develop application on ubuntu
to narrow down the possibilities to ask about.
Any particular language? perl/python/Java[Script]?
What do you want the application to do? There's *infinite* possibilities here!

Best wishes! Looking forward to hearing more from you!

p.s. Do you have Ubuntu running? Win? PC? (size of ram/disk?)

If you're looking to make graphical applications you might look at Qt first. If you want a GUI-like text interface, then ncurses is the way to go. Otherwise, for straight text, nothing special is needed.
