How to customize the Login Screen LM 17 Cinnamon 32 bit
Helo everybody,
I wanted to customize the Login screen. I tried everything I could taking suggestions from the web. I got into trouble. I reinstalled. I am here seeking your kind help. Here is how I would like my Login screen to look like; 1. I would like to add a 'personal' Login background image. 2. I would like the Login-screen to display a personalized message. 3. I don't want the Login-screen to display a list of usernames. Instead, [I haven't added any standard users yet. I am the root and the sole user now.] 4. I want the Login-screen to just prompt for entering the Login name and the password. My system specifications: Samsung RV509, i3, 300GB HDD, 3GB Ram, Dual boot Windows7 & LM 17 cinnamon 32bit. These are my requirements. Please help me customize my Login-screen. Thank you & Regards. Wish you all & LQ, a happy new year 2015. Anil |
There isn't much documentation but you have to look at the mdm.conf & mdm greeter files. Also there are some settings that can be change thru the gui after login.

half of your problems can be solved by opening the "Login Window" settings from the menu, and changing things there.
for further personalization - many themes are in html format, so they're designed and built like web pages. you can find the themes in /usr/share/mdm/html-themes. copy one (the whole folder) that comes close to your wishes to a safe location in your $HOME and start hacking around. i suspect most changes are to be made to the theme.css. if you also need to edit the index.html itself, i highly recommend to leave all the scripts inside it untouched, only edit the html itself. so maybe you need some html/css tutorial for that - try w3schools.com for starters, and then search your way to the better ones. stackoverflow.com usually have good answers to html/css questions. in the end you have to copy the renamed folder back into /usr/share/mdm/html-themes - with root privileges. then try the theme out in the above mentioned "Login Window" settings. |
