how to customize system tray?
hello :)
i'd like to learn how to do two things to my system tray (kde 3.3.1): 1. how to make the icons be arranged in two instead of one row? 2. how to change the sysytem tray icon of an application (limewire)? also, could you please tell me how i could mount a disk in autostart? |
You should change the panel height to large to have icons displayed on two rows. I don't think you can change the icons without recompiling an application.

Right click the app>click on the icon>browse for the icon you want to use. OK

right click the app's icon in the system tray? it only shows its menu and there's nothing about changing the icon there. when i click the icon in the upper left corner, when it's maximized, there's a couple of options there but none of them refers to the icon in the sys tray.

oh, so this is what you mean. but this doesn't change it's icon in the system tray. i want to change the sys tray icon of limewire, if it changes anything.

I don't think you can change system tray icons. They are different from normal icons, because they also provide extra features. (ie. they are not just static images) For example, an icon may display battery power left. That being said, you might have a look at the place where the application keeps its data files and see if you can find an image used to create the icon.

oh, ok. thanks for help anyway. i actually hoped it would be easy and it was just me stupid enough notto know how to do it. i guess i should be happy in a way that i was wrong :)

They are NOT hardcoded into the app. My Konqueror taskbar icon is an alien head that I downloaded and Gaim is a really cool blue icon.
Use the menu-edit app. Open the program >click the icon>browse to the image you want to use.(it needs to be an icon image or small enough for one. If that doesn't work you can search for the program icon and change it. It has been a while since I have ued KDE. Icewm is simply a matter of editing a text file and point to app to a new icon. |
