How to customize my KDE applications menu?

Hi guys,

I found this documentation on how to edit the menu source file:

http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebas.../kde-menu.html

but I have no environment variable $XDG_DATA_HOME or $KDEDIR. I am running Ubuntu 9.04. Also, after I have edited the menu file, do I have to restart to see that it worked?

Also, if there is an easier way to customize, I would like to know that as well.

Thanks in advance!

You have to at least restart x with ctrl + alt + backspace. There is an easier way click the kmenu scroll to anywhere on it and right click one of options that come up should be kmenu editor. Use that and save your changes.

When I right click, it only gives the options, Add to Favorites, Add to Desktop, Add to Panel.

you can right-click on the k-menu button and choose "edit k-menu".
Alternatively just press ALT+F2 and type "kmenuedit", then enter ...
