You can create a new file with the touch command.

touch .profile

Or you can use any text editor to create it and start editing as well like this, using any such editor:

vi .profile ( uses the vi editor )

pico .profile ( uses the pico editor, easy for newbies to use )

mc .profile ( uses the midnight commander editor )

Or whatever other editor you prefer that is.
