Resolved: How to create launcher to a remote server?
I have the "hard" part done - ssh server is running on my server machine, I have connected from my workstation with terminal and Gnome/Nautilus, added the security certificate for the server, saved my password for the server to my key ring and created a bookmark which will take me to the server / directory.
Now all I want to do is to create a launcher on the panel for this bookmark. The process escapes me. I have tried several approaches which work for applications but to no avail. It can't be this hard. Server and workstation are Ubuntu 7.10. TIA, Ken Update (but not success)... I logged out an back in to the workstation a couple of times testing something else. The bookmark to my server disappeared. I did Places; Connect to server; and selected ssh, filled in the server name, my name and the desired starting directory. This created a launcher on my desktop. It stays between logouts/logins and takes me to my server as desired. However, I cannot place it on the panel (?) Resolved: Doh! had to set the type of launcher to "Location" rather than "Application" when creating a launcher on the panel manually. |
