Question How to create Desktop shortcut with eclipse IDE icom


Hi all,
I have been using eclipse Galileo on top of Ubuntu 9.10. Normally I launch eclipse by using terminal but I would like to know way to create desktop short cut to launch eclipse.

I have goggled and find a way but issue is it won't display default eclipse image icon..

i have put eclipse under /opt/eclipse. my requirement is to create desktop shortcut with eclipse shortcut image to launch eclipse.

I'm looking for gentle help make this to be done.If somebody have did this before.Please show me right path to follow.

Right click the desktop
Select "Create Launcher"
In the name field put "Eclipse Galileo"
Under the command field enter "/opt/elcipse/eclipse" (if you have command line arguments you can add them here)
You can add a comment in the comment field if you wish, otherwise, click on the icon square, in the upper left corner
navigate to /opt/eclipse
select icon.xpm
click Open
click OK

yes it is helpful but, can I know how to do it in manually.In the sense, without using create launcher by right clicking on desktop.I guess there should be a way to it.

I suggest you create a shortcut on the task bar on the top of the screen.

where ever you have the actual icon, 'click' 'drag' and 'place' it on the task bar. the shortcut is created.
