How To create a new Partition

please help me how to create a new partition from the existing system
I am using ubuntu 9.04 as Host system and work on LFS.

The command given in LFS book throws i.e

khirod@khirod:/dev$ mke2fs -jv /dev/sda5
mke2fs 1.41.4 (27-Jan-2009)
/dev/sda5 is mounted; will not make a filesystem here!

Please help me out

Khirod Patra.

Whoa!! That command doesn't make a partition! It formats a partition!

Do you have any space on your disk that is NOT already in a partition? If not you'll need to use GParted to shrink one of your existing partitions to make space for a new one. You can also use gparted to make a new partition.
