Did you try <CTRL>-C and <CTRL>-V? Saving the text to a file in Linux, then copying it over to Windows?

You don't give alot of details on your setup, so it's hard to say. Things like if this is on the same box, what the host OS is and what the guest is, etc.

devnull10 03-28-2010 11:53 AM

Or highlight and middle mouse button?

host machine is xp and i installed vmware in xp , now i want to copy text from text terminal into word document in windows, how to do it?

As TB0ne and devnull10 suggested, you should be able to simply cut and paste between Windows and VMWare.

Potential "gotcha": you probably need to install VMWare tools on your guest OS (here, your Linux). This article is a bit old, but it should still be valid for whatever release of VMWare you happen to have:

Again, SPELL OUT YOUR WORDS

And you still haven't answered whether or not the ctrl-c/v combination worked. And if you want to install VMware tools, go to the vmware site, download them, and follow the instructions.

paulsm4 04-02-2010 01:53 AM

Hi -

Exactly how you install VMWare tools depends on what VMWare product you're using (for example, VMWare Workstation), and version#.

But in any case:
1. VMWare tools is provided on an .iso file
2. You "mount" the .iso in your guest OS (as though it were a real CD)

Which word in that are you having trouble understanding?

jefro 04-23-2010 09:55 PM

http://www.petri.co.il/virtual_install_vmware_tools.htm is a sample of how one might install tools.

See vmware for your exact version and product or search web for install vmtools.

You might want to read the OP's other threads. Doesn't appear to be too good at reading directions, or understanding them.

Since you don't say what's wrong, how do we know why? Did you, again, try to look up the error(s) you got?

No idea, since I don't think any of us here know what an "e folder" is.

Well, if it says it's free, it probably IS. And again, since you're not too keen on reading/understanding things, we don't know what version you need, since you've never bothered telling us ANY details about your installation.

If you read the previous posts, and tried to look anything up for yourself, you'll know what version you need, where to get it, and how to install it.

pixellany 04-26-2010 08:16 AM

Perhaps "e folder" means the Windows E:\ drive??

pixellany 04-26-2010 08:22 AM

I hope you will learn to put your questions in the context of the answers and advice you receive.

When you post something, make reference to the answers alread provided. This could mean saying that you did not understand some part of the answer---or it could mean telling us that you tried what was suggested and that you got a particular result.

As you were advised in another recent thread, do not respond to help, suggestions, etc. by simply repeating your original question---or by throwing out a new question without relating it to the existing conversation.

meandsushil 04-26-2010 11:21 AM

E and C drives are WINDOWS drives. If you're asking about Windows software, ask on a Windows forum. This is LINUXquestions. And how are we supposed to tell you whether you can or not, when you haven't said WHAT PROBLEMS YOU'RE HAVING installing it.

And, you STILL haven't answered about versions, etc., or bothered to address the original issue, that you asked about. Did you try the originally stated solution???

MTK358 04-26-2010 11:35 AM

Linux does not have the concept of "drive letters".

Hi,

Yes you can install vmware tools in Linux guests. It's pretty well explained on this site.

Kind regards,

Eric

Good luck, Eric. The OP isn't keen on reading anything, or following instructions.

EricTRA 04-26-2010 11:50 AM

Hi TBOne (and other fellow LQ users),

I'm a strong believer in patience, and that's the only thing needed to 'teach' the hard-headed. I think that the OP just doesn't know well how to communicate, most likely because he's not that experienced in English. Where there's a will, there's a way! If he shows the will, then I'm sure we can show him 'the way', although I'm sure patience and steel nerves will be needed

Kind regards,

Eric

Really, I wish you luck, and I hope that's the case. However, based on the OP's other threads, and such gems as:
Quote:

Stop sending try and try, read and read, i did all that but some commands are not working.
lead one to believe differently. And, based on the OP's other threads, he's supposedly got a college degree, and Linux certifications. One would think that with those, would come the ability to answer a question, or TRY to look something up, even if the syntax was incorrect.

Complaining about having to try things? Isn't that the point?

EricTRA 04-26-2010 12:11 PM

LOL, haven't seen that one yet. I'm gonna have a look at his other threads to see what you mean. If it's just stubbornness then you are completely right TBOne.

Kind regards,

Eric

TB0ne, I only have one thing to say, very humbly, looking down at the ground, after picking myself back up from where I fell down ROTFLMAO!!

I stand corrected after reading the other threads you mentioned and I don't think I could demonstrate that much patience necessary to help out.

Kind regards,

Eric

I think we can wrap up our critique of a fellow member and proceed with helping (or NOT helping, as you choose). Obviously, the appropriate response to any particular post is always welcome.

But will you try what we say, apply common sense, and post your results here?

Anyway, VirtualBox has "Guest Additions" that can be installed on the guest OS to help integrate it with the host OS.

I'm pretty sure VMware should have something equivalent, and according to previous posts it's called "VMware Tools". Remember, you install it in the guest OS, NOT the host OS.

pixellany 04-28-2010 02:35 PM

meandsushil;

1. Watch the language.

2. You have previously been advised to respond to people's inputs and to incorporate them in your follow-up questions. By contrast, you should NOT just keep repeating the question.

Please summarize what you have done with advice already given on this problem.

meandsushil 04-29-2010 08:01 AM

Yes my friend i did install in xp the guest os but i can not install it in guest linux man.

Hello,

If I understand your post correctly you did install Linux in a virtual machine that runs on Windows XP, right? Did you read the link I posted in post #20? That explains in very easy terms how to install the VMWare tools in a Linux guest operating system. If you want to, we can go through it step by step if you tell me what you have tried and where it has gone wrong.

Kind regards,

Eric

EricTRA 05-14-2010 06:10 AM

Hello meandsushil,

Can you please let us know if you were able to get what you want? In other words, is your problem solved or still pending a solution? If it's solved please mark this thread as solved using the Thread tools. If it's not yet working please let us know what's failing.

Kind regards,

Eric

To install VMware Tools in Linux:
Start your VM, go to VM menu, Install VM tools. That should mount an ISO as a CDROM.
In Linux, mount the cdrom, copy, extract and install tools.
A complete walk through is available on the net...just ask uncle google.

PS: As others mentioned, try to be specific when describing a problem...
