How do I copy files from my cdrw to my hdd? These are homegrown mp3's that I'd like to copy. I'm a serious newbie so I don't even know if I have cdwrite or rewrite capability. Do I?
I need to know the process of copying these files. What are the steps necessary?
If I need to download cdwrite software which one should I download?
Well, since you didn't give any information on your distribution or your system configuration, I'll just have to guess... If they are just MP3 files, try this:
mount /dev/cdrom
cp /mnt/cdrom/*.mp3 /somedir/moredir/
You want to replace /somedir/moredir/ with wheerever you want them to go.
On some distros, when you stick a CD in, it automounts and you can use a GUI filemanager like nautilus or konqueror and just drag & drop.
If it is an audio CD, you will need to "rip" the tracks and convert to MP3.
Ooops, I see you did say RH 7.3 so above should be good.
As for CDR/CDRW capabilitiees, what is the model number of the CD device? Something like Teac DW-548D and maybe I can get an answer for you... You will need software to write to CDRs
