how to copy public domain mp3's to hdd on rh 7.3

Hello All:

How do I copy files from my cdrw to my hdd? These are homegrown mp3's that I'd like to copy. I'm a serious newbie so I don't even know if I have cdwrite or rewrite capability. Do I?

I need to know the process of copying these files. What are the steps necessary?
If I need to download cdwrite software which one should I download?

Please let me know.

Thanks,

ergo_sum

Well, since you didn't give any information on your distribution or your system configuration, I'll just have to guess... If they are just MP3 files, try this:

mount /dev/cdrom
cp /mnt/cdrom/*.mp3 /somedir/moredir/

You want to replace /somedir/moredir/ with wheerever you want them to go.

On some distros, when you stick a CD in, it automounts and you can use a GUI filemanager like nautilus or konqueror and just drag & drop.

If it is an audio CD, you will need to "rip" the tracks and convert to MP3.

Ooops, I see you did say RH 7.3 so above should be good.

As for CDR/CDRW capabilitiees, what is the model number of the CD device? Something like Teac DW-548D and maybe I can get an answer for you... You will need software to write to CDRs

Nope.

On a previous post I was told that you can't mount music cd's. And I can't mount my cd w/ these files on it.

Now what?

Try:
mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
You may need to be root. If that doesn't work, please post EXACT error message returned.

Also, if your Linux box is networked, you could always FTP them to your box.

Well, something is amiss.

I tried mounting a data cdrom and all was well. Then I took the cd out, and popped in the one I want to copy.
This is what I got:

wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/scd0,
or too many mounted file systems

Maybe it's the file type (just guessing here). The device is fine. It's just the cd that I can't see.
