How to connect 2 SuSE computers?

Hi all,

after cruising almost 2 months with SuSE linux 9.0, I'm still a happy user, but I never managed to connect 2 of my SuSE installations to eachother.

Now I'm working together with a friend (who installed SuSE too and is very happy with it too) and we're trying together how to make our files visible to eachother. The goal is to use a shared 'htdocs' folder to work on together.

If I understand it right Samba is only needed for connections with windows boxes (but since I hate my own XP-box soo much now, crashing its 'ass' off on a cd-read-timeout, I won't need it much more longer.) But without Samba how can I connect 2 SuSE boxes so that I can see them in for instance Konqueror filemanager? (Or should we setup a ftp server?)

I'm really stuck on this one, since I've tried a couple of times now and there seems to be no progress..

The 2 linux boxes can ping eachother from a console (even a graphical one),
I can use the routing-functionality of one SuSE-box to let the other go online (I'm actually writing this on a SuSE-laptop trough the other computer ..)
The router computer's hostname is 'linux', domain 'local', IP 192.168.0.1 (internal)/DHCP (external cablemodem)
The other's hostname is 'laplin', domain 'local', IP 192.168.0.139

Thx a lot pple!

Suse is fortunate enough to have an exteremely easy to use GUI for samba. Everything is almost completely automatic.

if you open YaST and click the network services tab, scroll down till you see "Samba Client" and Samba Server"

Run both of those wizzards. It may require the installation of the samba packages.

If you're still stuck after running the wizzards, come back here and post your /etc/samba/smb.conf

Yeah, it really rocks!
We can see eachother 'just like that', edit the same files, etc. etc.

Very nice!
