hello , linuxlover.chaitanya, i did try your said method,System > Administration > Network.But after entering username and passward when i was to activate connection , it's just failed.

CAN uhelp me to get how to configure dial up INTERNET connection in RHEL 5?

Hi my name is Sushil, I want to configure Internet connection in my linux os but don't know how to do it. In Windows XP the method is quite simple but in linux I know know what to do about, It has been very challenging for me to do it but don't knw how ot do it.

Please help me

This file I have to type at run "RASPPPOE.inf" to get list of available Internet providers.

In windows I do it in this way-
1.First go to My network places ->View network connection->Local area network->Properties->Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)->Install->protocol->Microsoft TCP/IP version 6(select)->Have disk->(then browse to get “RASPPPOE.inf” file from ‘PPPOE” folder)->click OK->select PPP over Ethernet protocol->Click OK->>continue anyway(two times if asked)-> Apply->OK.

2.Then got to run ->Type raspppoe (Enter)->one window will open->select the LAN card (where internet cable is connected)->Click on Query available services->Select Internet provider’s name and->Click on Create dial up connection.-> Then dial up will be created on Desktop where I enter my username and password to start internet.


Now please tell me how to do it in LINUX, I really need it. I will Thank you a lot if you could help me out!

How do you suppose most people learn things ? Well, most people learn things by trying and reading manuals. Trial & error.. over and over for some.

You don't seem very interested to read and try though, you just ask for the steps to take, well that's impossible for us to do, we are not where you are! And again, linux ain't windows, so it's a different story, telling us how to do it in windows, is not quite helpful.

Though you say my commands didn't help you, you again fail to post any errors or other things of importance that could help us help you.

I don't see much point in going along in this roller coaster thread, it's a dead end at this point...

You say "don't tell you to try and try, read and read", what, exactly are you expecting??

Again, you put no effort into trying to learn, or apply any common sense to the problem. You've gotten links, with documentation, on how to install the software, and some folks have even given you step-by-step guides, and you're STILL complaining.

Not sure what anyone here can do for you.

And why is that? Probably because you don't ever say what you've tried, post the results of the commands, and generally act like you're a child. Gave you links to software, and you post back about what should you download? How should you download it? Where should you unpack it? Can you not read ANYTHING for yourself?

Nothings working for you, because the task is obviously too complicated for you.

If command not found and failed error are coming then what's point in posting?

Right...what is your point in posting?? You refuse to follow directions, read documentation, post replies to what people tell you to try, and generally whine that people aren't giving you enough help.

You are NOT going to find any websites, anywhere, that tell you 100% step-by-step, how to do something. Even commercial software doesn't. Folks here have given you steps, but you don't follow them, or don't apply any common sense to them. Like when you typed in "$./", instead of actually THINKING for a second, "Gee, the $ is my prompt...MAYBE I should just type in ./ instead...". But no..you type it in, it fails, and you immediately come back, about "it not working! AHhhh!!". Show some effort...read some docs, look something up for yourself, and ask (and reply) intelligently. You say you have a college degree, and Linux certifications (based on your other threads)....but you can hardly put a sentence together, or follow even basic instructions.

Your next post needs to somehow acknowledge / summarize all of the inputs you have received and a short statement of which ones you tried.

For things you tried, tell us what happened.

For things you did NOT try, explain why not.

But do NOT simply keep repeating the question

If you don't respond directly to what people have already told you, this is going to be closed.

Ok. Failed but what error did you see on the screen? Did you try rp-pppoe? adsl-setup? All commands or packages are for same thing. I have a setup on CentOS5.4 for dial up dsl internet and it is working without issues since last couple of years. It also acts as a gateway for the rest of the lan and I have not had issues with GUI configuration or adsl-setup command line utility.
You need to tell what errors you got and when?
And all those members who have posted here are trying to help you but YOU need to co-operate with them and do what has been advised and post the errors and read some documentation. No one will spoon feed you.

Thats not too difficult sushil, even for a newbie. You just need to copy paste from here to your console and from your console to the post.
And also make sure that when you post the command output, you use Code tags so that it betters the readability of the command output.
