How to completely take out windows

Hey, I am considering taking out my windows xp partition altogether. How can I do that and give the space left over to Linux? Any help would be appreciated.
Please be specific, I am considerably new.

Well, you can simply rm the entire disc (which I wouldn't do) or you can format the partition with a linux filesystem, let's say ext3. So once you take the plunge and have all the things backed up:
mke2fs -j /dev/hdXX

where XX represents your winbloze partition(s)

Cool

you can also boot with the windows 98 boot disk, run fdisk, and if your windows xp is on nfts files system , delete non-dos partition in the fdisk selection menu.
