How to compile alsa drivers?

I am needing to use the newest alsa drivers because the ones on opensuse 10.2 do not work with soundblaster live. The only issue is that website say you have to "compile" the file. I notice that nowhere you can find a tutorial on how to compile a file. So what is compiling and how do I do it?
They also have to have sound support compile with them according to the install file(whatever that means????)
