How to clone UbuFF to a new drive?

I want to clone my sda for the purposes of both backup and to transfer the system to a larger drive.
I have successfully established an auto mounting 40GB sdb drive for this purpose. I am investigating dd but am told it only works on two drives of identical geometry.

G4L is way over my head and designed to clone over an FTP connection anyway.

Partimage is in beta - is it safe and practical for this purpose? What other software is available for exact image clone to a larger local drive?

Assuming I can clone my old drive, can I then merely change its position on the IDE cable and jumper as master to transform it to boot drive sda?
