How to clean MBR since Windows XP
 
Hi I´m new in linux ; I´ve probed some distributions but now I want to use only debian so How can I clean MBR since Windows XP without delete it because if I install Linux MBR is going to overwritte

not quite understanding what you're asking. but are you asking....
you already have windows. you want to use debian and you're worried about the debian installing lilo or grub into the mbr? well if i remember correctly, you can always add the windows partition to either grub or lilo to get a dual boot menu when you boot up. not sure about debian, though, but you may even be able to specify this stuff at install where debian will find your windows partition and automatically put in a boot menu entry.

Are you asking about a way to load linux and boot to it without having to load something in the MBR such as lilo or grub?

Some linux distros do give you an option to use a boot disk instead of lilo or grub. I know that mandrake/mandriva used to offer this during the installation. So did Suse (I think).


Or are asking about problems loading windows on a hard drive that doesn't have a FAT or NTFS partition?
