How to change what is displayed in the gnome "notification area applet"?

Specifically I am inquiring about gnome 2.30.2 on CentOS 6.2 although I am sure it would apply to other gnome 2 based distros. I have two monitors with separate distinct panels. The notification area on my left monitor panel contains a the clock, a volume control and an icon for NetworkManager. I would like to move the NetworkManager icon to the notification area on the right monitor as the right monitor is larger and I need some space on the left panel.

I have looked in gconf-editor and do not see anything which seems related. Any help appreciated.

TIA,

Ken

If you're using gconf-editor, the panel settings are in: Apps > Panel. There you'll all of the settings for the panels.
