How to change the save to directory in xsane

I have FC-5 and use KDE.

I set up xsane but it saved the scanned image to my home directory. I would like it to save to a different directory but it doesn't change when I try. Under Preferences I select Change directory and that brings up a dialog with a couple of ways to select (I assume, I don't know) where the output file is saved. One is a dropdown list that has the path of the current directory and the directories before it. The other is a graphical listing of the directories after the current one. The dropdown list works but the graphical listing doesn't.

In the graphical list I select a directory and hit OK but it doesn't change anything. The only change I get is when I select a directory. An unexpected change occurs. For example if the current directory is "/" when I make a selection, the current directory changes to "//". What is "//"?

Thanks,

royeo
