how to change the root password
 
dear all

i am using suse linux version 10. i forget my root password i need to reset the password how to do

It's probably just worth reinstalling. It's very hard to recover a lost root password.

Assuming you are using grub as a boot loader, when you start your machine, it should show the option to boot into Single user mode (or root mode depending on the terminology). Just choose the option and you will be logged in as root. After that you can run the "passwd" command to set the password.

i prefer reinstalling the distro again, it might be hard and tideous to recover the lost password

REinstalling distro to higher version would help, than installing the same version. . :)

Er. No. Boot into single user mode as explained and run 'passwd'. Simple. Why go through all the effort of a reinstall for something so simple?
