Question How to change " setenv IDLUTILS_DIR ~/idl/idlutils" to "export"??

Hi Everybody,

I have installed some IDL packages and the istruction says you
should add " setenv IDLUTILS_DIR ~/idl/idlutils" to your "cshrc".

But I wanna add it to my "bashrc" so I should convert it to
something like "export IDLUTILS_DIR ~/idl/idlutils" or something,
I do not know the right form of changing "setenv" to "export"..

---------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW, How to write the following in "export' version:
setenv IDL_PATH +$IDL_DIR\/lib:+$IDL_DIR\/examples:+~/idl:+pro/
---------------------------------------------------------------------

I would be very grateful if anyone could help me in this matter.

With best regards,
Hassan

export VARIABLE_NAME=value
export VARIABLE_NAME='value with spaces'

or
VARIABLE_NAME=value
export $VARIABLE_NAME

Thanks "business_kid".

Would you please tell me what should I write the following in "export" language:
setenv IDL_PATH +$IDL_DIR\/lib:+$IDL_DIR\/examples:+~/idl:+pro/

Best regards,
Hassan

you might just get out with setting $IDL_PATH. Grok your rc scripts for ideas.

Does setenv do anything besides export a variable?
