How to change Graphics Card [PCI to AGP]?
 

Maybe I should have asked my Question is this forum instead.

I have 2 graphics cards in my system. I dual boot Win2K and Linux.

My Bios is set to detect PCI first and then AGP.
With Linux the PCI card is an unsupported Intergraph card. The AGP is a supported TNT2 card.

In Windows the system sees both cards and lets me switch between them. All I got to do is change the monitor cable from card to card.

I do not want to alter my BIOS to boot AGP first.

When Linux boots the PCI card is detected first and used. I end up with a really poor generic display because my card is not supported. (I use SuSE 7.1)

Anyhow in Linux KDE control centre I can goto 'SYSTEM' - 'KDE SYSTEM CONTROL' and on the right is the device manager. If I choose display controllers from that list I can see four devices that have been found.

-GD 5430/40 [Alpine]
-Riva TNT2 [NV5]
-Unknown
-Unknown

Now my guess is that the 2 unknowns are both parts of my unsupported Intergraph card in the PCI slot and the GD 5430/40 is the generic default driver i am looking at here which is giving me a very very poor display in low bit resolution.

Now if I could instead get my system to use the Riva TNT2 card I would be very happy. I also do not want to change the bios to AGP first.

So how exactly do I go about setting this up?

Hi !!!

Do you know much video memory your video card has?
If so, run sax2 and go to the part where video cards are configured, then click on advanced and enter the amount of memory that your card has, and I think that's it. Try doing that to see if you gain more resolutions, if not just wait for a better answer.

Will that detect my AGP card or will it just use the PCI one? I would really like to know how the AGP PCI switch occurs.

I am basically concerned that I will somehow be trying to get LINUX to detect the TNT configuration on the PCI card slot... which would be wrong.
