do you mean X doesn't start automatically, or when you start X it won't run? if you're logging in on the command line, just type startx to, um, start X.

Yes I tried by typing at the command startx . It was giving error as the x was already started and used by other program.

so I went in and changed the /etc/inittab file

id:5:defualt... to
id:3:default...

then when logged abck in the system started in command mode only. So typed #startx , still it goes into gnome . Any other setting missing here ?!!

Thanks.

if you say fluxbox is installed, then all you will have to do is go into your home folder and edit the .xinitrc file, and simply add:
exec fluxbox
if the file isn't there, then just make it....
