Question how to change display settings

Hi as per your suggestions for my early questions I have installed Mandrake on my machine . It was successfull thanks to you guys. Now I want to change display settings on my monitor to 1024x768. Can some one tell me how to change the display settings. This is the first time I am using Linux so I would appreciate if you could tell me step by step like for dummy.

thank you.

if your looking for a gui tool, go to mandrake control center, hardware, there is a tool there just for changing your screen resolution. good luck.
