How to back up all packages downloaded with Synaptic

Hello all, first thread... I finally decided to take the final and official leap towards Linux, so I've got Ubuntu 10.04 up and running on my machine.

My question is if it is possible for me to save/backup packages downloaded using Synaptic or the Ubuntu Software Center? Where I live (South Africa) we have seriously limited internet and I do not want to download all my extra packages again if I have to reinstall Linux for some reason.
Please tell me there is a way to do this?

Most of the downloaded packages APT extracts are stored in /var/cache/apt/archives before they are installed. Try making a snapshot (perhaps using Back In Time) of that directory and you can use the snapshot to reinstall the packages from the .deb files. You could also use that directory to make a local repository and use the local repo to reinstall your packages.
