how to assisgn IP Address


Hello linux gurus!

I have a fresh installed redhat 9 with 1 network card attached
may I know what command will I type to assign 10.0.0.1 on the network card? also your suggested subnet pls....

and also when I type hostname it always reply localhost.localdomain

how can I assign a hostname plsss......

Please do yourself a favour and get a current distro. That one is years old and hasn't been update in years, so its wide open to exploits. It will also struggle on modern Hw for lack of drivers.
If you like the RedHat way, consider either Fedora v12 or Centos 5.4 (5.5 due soon).
Centos is the free version of RHEL

These kind of questions will get a faster answer using Google. To set the IP:

And to change the hostname:

Also read up on RedHat system administration, these things are basic knowledge and there's a lot of documentation on the Internet.
