How to assign ip address permanently

Hi All,

Can anybody pls tell How to assign IP address permanently to a linux machine. (After reboot, it should not go down)

Where are you adding the IP address?

If you are adding it /etc/hosts it shouldn't go away. Make sure you are root when you make changes to the file or it will not change.
