how to all my backup files and settings
 

I am currently reinstalling dualboot linux and windows going from and older sata 320GB harddrive to an 120SSD

I had everything setup good on the old drive with a fair amout of software and lots of settings so I really don't want to have to go through everything all over again.

will this work for me even though my linux OS I am using is Linux mint?

or would it be better to just start from scratch and redo everything again ?

Hmm I decided that it would probably be easier to just add the linux install to the windows boot menu but I am not sure as to how to do this

Linux Mint is based off of Ubuntu so your link's solution will work for you fine but you also have to think of all the configuration you may have been doing...

you will want to copy your home directories 'hidden' files, those stating with a '.', like .vimrc, .bashrc... etc

so you can retain your custom settings

also look into keeping other config files like fstab and /etc/profile and the like

what files to keep depends on how your distro keeps track of things and what programs you use and how

i'd suggest this time around to keep track of any changes or additions to your custom build as you do them into some file going forward so that when it's time to reinstall your OSs again you will know exactly how you like your system to be setup


windows really hates to play nice in regard boot loaders and fresh installs, your best bet if you need to reinstall windows would be to install it first and then reinstall the linux distro that has the bootloader that will let you choose at boot
