How to add "Refresh" option to the right click button in Mandriva 2010?

Hello,

I am a newbie in Linux. Recently installed Mandriva 2010 KDE 4 in my system. Now, when we right click in windows XP window, we can see the "Refresh" option (which on clicking will refresh the page or window). But this facility is not there by default in Linux.

So, I wonder if anyone of you can please help me with that problem. Thanking you for your time in reading this thread.

I'm assuming you're talking about the desktop here and not a browser or anything like that.

KDE4 uses a system of desktop widgets, meaning that you can't have raw icons directly on the desktop. You have to place a "folder view" widget on the desktop to display them. It's these folder view panes that act like traditional desktops, displaying all the icons that exist in that folder. The main desktop itself doesn't have a refresh option, but the folder-views do.

Dear David The H.,
Thank you for your reply. I mean, suppose we double click on the /etc folder and now we are inside it. Then we need to refresh the /etc folder. But when we do right click we don't see the 'Refresh F5' option but we can see the options like 'View Mode', 'Add to Places' & 'Properties' option.

So, I mean to say that is there any way we can configure some file so as to get this refreshing option on right clicking inside the folder window like /etc.?

I wonder what you need that for? In all my usage, Dolphin refreshes in real-time & never fails to do so.
There is a Reload option in the View menu. But I've never needed to use it.
So please tell us what is the reason behind wanting that option?

So what you're talking about is the context menu in the dolphin and/or konqueror file managers, and not the desktop.

As ongte pointed out, in general the folder view should refresh automatically every few seconds anyways, so it shouldn't be much of a problem. But refresh is also available in the view menu and as an optional toolbar icon, as well as (by default) the F5 button.

I don't know if there's any easy way to add them to the context menu, however. So if you really think it's that important, go for the google!

Mr. Ongte & Mr. David the H.,

Thank you very much for your replies. Actually I just wanted to try something new, like making my machine do the things my way. Actually I was able to change the windows machine to some extent. But as linux is open source so, I thought that it will be more possible for me to change the way it works. You know what I mean, as you people are more experienced than me. It will be great if we are able to change the script or something that will make the computer work more the way we wanted it to.

Anyway, I had done googling also regarding this but didn't get any satisfactory answers and hence posted it here ( this being my first post ).

Hoped this answered your questions and Thank you once again very much for taking out time to read my post and replying me.
Have a nice day!!!
