How to add launcher to gnome applications menu?
 

I cannot find anything in gnome that I can use to add new launchers to the gnome applications window.

Anyone know where the file is that creates this menu, or is there a tool for adding launchers to it?

I installed a couple of new apps, and I want them in my menus. Thanks for any info, guys.

Well on Gnome 2.6... i'm not sure about the other versions, you can go to the Applications Menu -> What Category you want to go to -> and then right click on any of the launcher entries, it should come up with something that says "Entire Menu", and then you hit Add New Item to this Menu. And it should be a smooth ride from there. :D

I am on 2.4, and right clicking on the menu didn't do anything.

I would like to upgrade to 2.6, but Mandrake has not released RPM's for it yet (except in the cooker), and I've read reports that it isn't exactly ready for prime time.

When I tried to install it myself, I couldn't get it to go in. It had tons of dependencies and refused to install it.

Has anyone written a step by step on upgrading to Gnome 2.6?

I was Googling on Gnome 2.4 Menu Entry, and it seems to have the same method as 2.6.

It should be as easy as right clicking on the menu and hitting the entire menu button. Just make sure your right clicking in a submenu and not the menu itself.

Thank you. Unfortunately, "add item to this menu" is disabled in the entire menu option. So, I can't add anything. Maybe I need to be root to do this? I wouldn't assume so.

I found it. From the top panel, on the left, click the following menu items:

* Applications
|---System
>>|---Configuration
>>>>|---Configure Your Computer
>>>>>>>|--- System
>>>>>>>>> |---Menus

Wow. It was buried pretty deeply in there. But that's where you go to edit the menu up in Gnome 2.4. There are also lots of other nifty configuration tools.

I'm having this same issue, but logging in as root experiences the same thing.

Anybody know the reason for this? And more importantly how to fix/work faround it?

I'm guessing Mandrake locks this down so that menus can be kept consistent between KDE and GNOME.

To modify the menus or add new items, try MenuDrake under System/Configuration/Other.
