Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) Desktop End of Life reached on May 9, 2013
So that is why synaptic is not downloading anything. Edit: PS. Hardy is End of Life also so it is in the same boat and Lucid Lynx.
To install Hardy Heron .deb package. Find it. Then use gdebi to install it or dpkg -i command in terminal. But if outside dependencies are needed for the Hardy Heron package to install.

It will fail to install. Also because Lucid Lynx/Hardy Heron is not supported any more.

You need to install a Supported Ubuntu Version. My suggestion would be for a low spec computer
and a newer type of user is.

Aska123,

It is time to replace 10.04 since, as you have already been told by rokytnji, it is no longer supported.

First, backup all your documents, photos, emails bookmarks etc to an external hard drive or USB stick.

Then, depending on your RAM and CPU, download and install another distribution such as Ubuntu 14.04 MATE, Linux Mint 17.1 MATE, Zorin OS 9, Zorin OS 9 Lite etc etc.

There are plenty of very good reviews on Linuxed for different distros:

Also, there is no need to install one of them immediately, just use a live DVD to explore its main features.
