can someone direct me to a link that will show me how to add different things to my newly installed black box desktop.
like a mozill icon and shortcut; also, cd icon with mount menu.
plus any other useful clickable startpoints.

you can't have desktop icons on blackbox, that's the whole idea.. no useless junk.

I suppose if you ran some part of Gnome/KDE on top of BB you could. On the odd occasion that I've decided to run panel from Gnome on my SawFish, it's loaded up the whole Gnome desktop (background desktop, that is). Quite weird. But, if you're gonna be doing that, why not just use Gnome and set BB as your WM in the Gnome options?

well yes quite.. don't mess with blackbox! ther'e are specific applicatoins for that like Rox, but what's the point???

that makes sense....no useless junk and the computer does seem to run faster than when i am using kde. i guess what i am wondering, and what i did not find on the bb website, is how do you open programs that are not listed on the pop up boxes when i right click on the desktop ? eg. items under the kde menu such as cd rom mount, floppy mount, file manager, package manager, etc.

or maybe this is the sole purpose of the black box.....surf faster, don't open much, go to kde/gnome to do the file managing, etc.
i would like to add a nice image file or screenshot like i have seen on some of the boards, though. is this difficult to do ?

I believe that the things on the KDE menu such as 'mount cd' and stuff are specific to KDE... they're not actual programs. You could always run GKrellM and have a little button to mount/umount your CD/DVD/Zip/Whatever...

Oh, and what is the problem you're having with pictures? You can't include an image directly in your post... you need to upload the image somewhere and post a link to it. Like this.

i'll see if i can locate gkrellm and give it a try.
no problem posting pics on forums; just wanted to have a changeable desktop theme on the desktop like some i have seen at freshmeat.org

hmm, I use fluxbox, which is supposed to be based on blackbox, so i think this should work:

Go to $HOME/.blackbox/ and edit the file "menu". compare what is in the file with what you see on your menu... it shouldn' be too hard to decipher what is going on & how to add (and take out) what you want. There is also a graphical configuration tool which you can get for fluxbox, so you might want to switch to flux. Good luck

ooh yeah, try starting gkrellm with this in your' $HOME/.xinitrc file (before "exec blackbox")

exec /usr/local/bin/gkrellm -w &
