How to activate Redhat linux 8.
 

Hello:

I'm a new member to this site and would like to get some help with the following question:

I have installed Linux 8 on my computer, I have tried deligently to register the software in order to use it, but I have not been succesful in doing so.

When I open the Redhat Browser; there is a message states that website does not found. What should I do in order to get my software updated?

Do you mean RedHat 8 or Fedora 8?

RedHat 8 is totally obsolete, and I would not expect any links, updates, etc. to work. If you like RedHat, then you might want to try Fedora or CentOS.

If you meant Fedora 8, there is no need to register. For SW updates, you may need to enable some repositories in the package manager.

You cannot register RH8 for the same reason you cannot expect to activate Windows 1.0, It is very OLD. To give you an idea, RH9 mas the last in the Redhat GNU/Linuxes, to be followed by fedora core 1, which can be thought of as RH10 (only not exactly). The fedora project is up to #8 with 9 around the corner... so that would be like RH17, you see?

Though you do not need to activate linux to use it (this is one of the freedoms you are granted as part of the GNU GPL) you should be using a more up to date OS.

If I may ask, what made you pick RH8 anyway?

Thank you for answering my question regarding to Redhat Linux 8. I'm very impress with the Linux system and that's my reason to try Linux 8. I didn't know that the software was absolute. I will have to look for a newer version such as Linux 9 or higher.

Obsolete.... "absolute software" would have a VERY different meaning....;)

"Linux 9" (meaning Redhat 9 in this context) is also obsolete. If you want to use Redhat, your choices are:
Redhat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) now at version 5
CentOS (clone of RHEL)--also version 5
Fedora--now at version 8

But there are many other versions which are more popular---eg Ubuntu, Mepis, PCLinuxOS, etc. I suggest you check out http://distrowatch.com
