How to acquire root privileges in Ubuntu 11.10?
I can't remember my root password, making it impossible to download and access certain features. I have an Asus EEE notebook.

lost password
Thank you very much for your response, but I have Ubuntu which I'm totally unfamiliar with. I can log on with default but nothing else.

Ubuntu has no root password by default. You have to use sudo and your own password.

password
When I turn on the notebook it says "enter password for keyring 'default' to unlock. I can do that, but if I try to go to the computer janitor or add a program it asks for a password to perform administrative task and my password won't work. How do I bypass this or reset it?

Reset 'default' password
I'm using the latest version of Ubuntu and I know what you're referring too.
Try.... 1. Opening terminal and type "sudo passwd" ->This will allow you to change the root password. If that doesn't work a second approach would be this...(but its a longer process and I believe it would yield the same result) 2.Reset Password I hope that is somewhat useful |
