How to access windows Remote Desktop?
I am trying to access the Windows XP remote desktop function from Ubuntu 6.06LTS but every time I try to connect it just tells me that the connection is refused. Can anyone help me? It's just bugging me.
I am using Terminal Server Client and RDPv6. |
1) Try a remote desktop application that works on both linux and windows such as:
Tight VNC 2) Check your firewall/router settings so it allows the connections to get through. |
Just in case, verify that you have XP set to accept remote connections.

Nevermind...
|
http://rdesktop.sourceforge.net for a basic remote-desktop client. You didn’t tell us how you “try to connect” to your windows server.

I re-checked my XP connection settings and, wouldn't you know it, it had reset them. (again)
I've now got XP set to accept remote connections. All I need now is to navigate my way around it's mindless point and drool interface to find the settings for allowing remote desktop. I think I've almost got this cracked. I think it may be a case of RTFM, I should have seen it sooner myself. |
Right click MY Computer -> Select Properties -> Select the Remote Tab -> Check the Box allow users to connect remotely to this computer.
Disable the firewall on your windows box while testing.. Windows rdp protocol uses TCP port 3389 so you will need to configure an exception for that port in your windows firewall. Use the rdesktop client on Linux to connect to your XP machine.. |
Which ever Windows profile you add to list of remote users must have a password.
