mount followed by cd usually works for me, as long as I have ntfs drivers installed.

Before installing I was checking this up myself since I have 4TB of external HDD myself all of which are NTFS. I think it all depends on your distro. I am planning on installing the openSUSE-Edu-li-f-e-11.3-1 distro from this site and when I googled "mount ntfs drive in linux opensuse" I came across http://opensuse.swerdna.org/susentfs.html#external

If you do the same I would watch for the dates of the results as well as a few of my earlier searches produced results from a few years ago and will now be moot probably.
