How the F@$# do you upgrade to KDE 3?

Hello,
Just so we're clear, I'm absolutely new to Linux, I know nothing about programming, compiling, building, whatever'ing, etc, etc, etc... I was finally able to successfully install Mandrake 8.2 after a few attempts for which I'm grateful.

The problem is this, after successfully installing Mandrake 8.2 and booting into KDE, (my default desktop) I went ahead and used that Mandrake update tool to d/l all the new patches, good idea I figured which went successfully. However I noticed that it didn't update KDE 2.2.2 to the new 3.0.1. No problem I figured, I'll just visit kde.org and get the install file myself and do it manually. So I found the link and noticed that there were 31 individual .rpm files their. I wasn't really sure which one was the one I needed so I just d/l'ed all of them to my usr/temp directory and started clicking on each one individually trying to install them. Right away I kept receiving these warnings about missing dependencies or something like that and was given the option to quit or force on. Well I started off by selecting quit which just dropped me back to the desktop without any further msg, but I wanted to update this thing so tried installing all 31 .rpm files again, (boy that took forever clicking on each one individually), and almost everyone of them gave me the same error saying something about something missing and I chose force every time.

Well needless to say now I can't boot into KDE anymore. This is getting really frustrating, now that I know how to install Mandrake successfully, I've re-installed and done this 31 file KDE update thing twice with the same results twice.

What the hell am I doing wrong here? there must be an easier way to update KDE than this? Without having to be a programmer or engineer or something?

Any help would be appreciated, and please not to sound demanding, but if you try to explain how to code a script or something along that lines or of that level of knowledge, I can guarantee you I won't have the slightest idea what your talking about.

Thanks all.

Sure, I'll help...

Theres a link on the Mandrake website that talks you through it here it is http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/mdk-kde3.0.php3

Good Luck :)

Yeah, if you have 8.2, just download all of the rpms out of the 8.2 folder. Then type in urpmi * and it will install them all at the same time. Have your install CDs ready too, because it installed some stuff off of those to satisfy dependencies.
