how secure is mandrake v8 out of the box?

I plan on running a web server, ftp, mail server, and host 4-5 different domains on my linux box. I am in the process of trying to get mandrake v8 install going... I am pretty new to linux, but have had DOS and unix background...

This box won't be heavily hit, just a few users here and there... mostly for friends and to host a few sites. I was wondering how secure mandrake v8 is out of the box and what I would need to do? Where can i find patches and such? Thanks in advance..

its as secure as you are willing to make it. its all gonna be up to you, i guess being the administrator that is.
all systems have their ups and downs, but i think personally its all upon how secure you make it yourself.

you can check out the security forum, jeremy usually posts weekly security news there for Linux related stuff.

as for patches, drake has a good online update program, run that weekly to stay up on all the bug fixes/security patches etc.
